Final Cane Payment to be Released on Monday
Good news for sugarcane farmers as the final cane payment for the 2024 season will be given out on Monday, including a Government top-up of $8.27 per tonne.
This move will enable thousands of workers and service providers to celebrate Diwali with their families in joy and peace of mind.
The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, together with the Fiji Sugar Corporation, have ensured that payments will be made to cane cutters, lorry operators, harvester operators, sirdars, and field workers ahead of the Diwali festival.
The Ministry was approached by sugar industry workers, who expressed concern that their regular fortnightly payments, initially scheduled for Wednesday, would arrive a day after Diwali.
