Actor Robert Lesser recounts meeting Diane Keaton at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City when she was just 19.
Last Saturday, while driving into Los Angeles, Lesser received a call from his wife Annie with sad news: Diane Keaton had passed away at 79.
She was 79, I’m older, so how ever could that be?
Lesser and Keaton met in 1965 as first-year acting students at the Neighborhood Playhouse. At the time, Keaton was a young woman from Orange County, Calif., still known as Diane Hall.
She was staying at The Rehearsal Club, a strictly women's boarding house on West 53rd Street, while Lesser had just scored his first New York apartment.
