Owner Ernest Battle, a Louisiana native and son of a longtime French Quarter chef, brings authentic and affordable Cajun food to Ferndale through his restaurant and catering company, Battle's Kitchen.
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina forced Battle and his family to flee New Orleans, where they lost everything.
"When the water started rising, we were prepared to leave. The place where we left — the water was 22 feet high,"he recalled. His uncle had to be rescued from the roof of his house.
Battle met a young woman from Ferndale at Mardi Gras the year before, which ultimately led him to rebuild his life there. Now, he shares his Cajun heritage through his cooking.
