Canadian Leylah Fernandez defeated Tereza Valentova of Czechia 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 in the championship final of the Japan Women’s Open.
Fernandez, 23, from Laval, Que., quickly won the first set in 28 minutes, but Valentova, 18, found her game, making the match last almost two more hours at the Utsubo Tennis Center.
