Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged Donald Trump to help end the war in Ukraine, similar to his efforts in "the Middle East".
Moscow has consistently targeted Ukraine's energy grid each winter since the invasion in 2022, resulting in power and heating outages for millions of households and disrupting water supply, which Kyiv considers a war crime.

Zelensky made the request during a phone call with Trump on Saturday, stating that if Trump could stop one war, "others can be stopped as well". The call followed a large-scale attack by Russia on Ukraine's energy grid, leaving parts of the capital Kyiv and nine other regions without power.
Diplomatic efforts to end the invasion have slowed down in recent months, partly due to the shift in global attention to Israel's two-year war with Hamas, according to Kyiv.
