Girls Golf: Dakota's Monteith Keeps Rising Charts

Marissa Monteith, a junior at Macomb Dakota, was given an ultimatum by her parents in eighth grade: if she gave up softball, she had to play another school sport.

"My grandpa lives on a golf course and I've played golf for fun growing up. I guess I was pretty good at it, but never really took it seriously,"

recalled Monteith. She tried out for the golf team in high school and has been improving ever since. Her parents' motivation was to keep her active after school.

"My parents said there was no way I would just sit around after school and not do anything,"

she added. Monteith has been rising through the charts, making a name for herself in girls golf.
