Dedication of Chinese Grant to Establish New Universities in Ghana

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announced that President John Dramani Mahama has dedicated a recent grant from the Chinese Government to establish new universities across the country.

Speaking at the launch of the Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities initiative in Accra, the Minister revealed that President Mahama secured 200 million Renminbi (RMB) from China, equivalent to between 27 and 30 million US dollars, to support Ghana’s higher education sector.

The Chinese government was benevolent and generous enough to give Ghana some 200 million RMB.

According to Mr Iddrisu, the Chinese government demonstrated "benevolence and generosity" by offering Ghana the financial package during the President’s visit to China a few weeks ago.

The grant will be used to establish new universities in Ghana, as announced by the Minister of Education.
