Cele says crime shot up during Riah Phiyega tenure

Crime Increase Under Riah Phiyega's Tenure

Former police minister Bheki Cele states that crime rates in South Africa rose after the removal of SAPS leadership during Riah Phiyega's tenure as national commissioner in 2012.

Cele mentions that one of the removed officials is the current KZN police chief, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who was forced to stop pursuing disciplinary action against Crime Intelligence Boss, Richard Mdluli.

"It disrupted the organisation, the work of the law enforcement agencies, including the police. You see it with outcomes, and our outcomes are a question of how people feel in the crime states,”

said Cele, highlighting the impact of the leadership changes on the police force and crime rates.
