Bird Flu Detected in Northeast Indiana

A new case of bird flu has been detected in northeast Indiana, according to the Indiana State Board of Animal Health.

The affected flock of nearly 20,000 birds was located at a commercial egg layer in LaGrange County. This marks the fifth case in the region since the beginning of October, with multiple cases detected in LaGrange and Elkhart counties.

The case was confirmed positive on October 21, and the impacted flock has been depopulated. A 10km control area and 20km surveillance zone have been established in parts of Elkhart, LaGrange, and Noble Counties.

Once testing confirms the virus is no longer present, the quarantine will be lifted, and restocking can begin.
