Hurricane Melissa Forecast
Hurricane Melissa, a category five storm, is expected to make landfall in eastern Westmoreland or western St Elizabeth within 24 hours.
Evan Thompson, Principal Director of the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, provided an update from the National Emergency Operations Centre, stating:
[Hurricane Melissa] is moving closer to us; there is just a small window of opportunity where it could continue to shift.
Thompson noted that there is a possibility the hurricane could weaken to category four before landfall.
