Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, has announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.
His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election to be held in December. Currently, Democrat Eric Gisler is running for the House seat in 2026 and may also choose to run in the special election.
This is not the first special election in the area, as similar elections were held in 2017 to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick, resulting in Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez winning the House seats representing Oconee County.
Special elections will be held to fill the vacant seat.
Author's summary: Wiedower resigns, prompting a special election.
