Eastpointe Military Museum Building Turns 70
A history of the Military Museum property on Stephens Road will be presented on November 9, showcasing its transformation from an ice rink to a teen center, temporary City Hall, and finally, a museum.
The property, now home to the Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society Museum, was once known as Shakespeare's Field and did not have an official address. According to Wendy Richardson, Military Museum CFO,
it started as an ice rink and stayed that way for quite a while until tennis courts were added around 1970.
The building, initially constructed as a teen center after World War II, is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Richardson has conducted extensive research on the property's history and will present
