Tech Execs Support Legislation Against Social Media Censorship
Google and Meta officials expressed support for Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz's plan to introduce legislation targeting social media censorship.
The proposed bill aims to increase transparency around government contacts with social media platforms and allow individuals to sue the government for censorship.
Ted Cruz stated that the Biden administration has been "jawboning Big Tech into deleting tweets, down-ranking posts and deplatforming conservatives under the guise of 'safety and national security.'"
This is the second Commerce Committee hearing on "jawboning", or indirect censorship, this month, following a previous hearing featuring individuals who claimed their content was censored by social media platforms at the direction of the Biden administration.
