Canada's Democratic Deficit

Canada's democratic deficit can no longer be ignored. The rise of hard-edged, anti-system populism in Canada will be difficult to prevent unless the centre and left actively confront the deepening gaps in the democratic system.

Politics in the United Kingdom has been upended by the rise of a right-wing populist force. Similar currents are at work in Canada, propelled by the same factors that drove the UK's populist insurgency.

The centre and left must actively confront the deepening gaps in our democratic system before further economic turbulence intensifies the crisis.
