McSweeney's ton, along with a patient 84 from Henry Hunt, helped South Australia reach 4-297 at stumps on day three, leading WA by 205.
After a brief stint in the Test side last summer, McSweeney has been solid, but not spectacular, since being dropped in December.
McSweeney was thrown into the deep end, asked to open against India, but has now found his form.
