Wiltshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Philip Wilkinson, has stated that the cost of maintaining a helicopter service cannot be justified.
According to new usage statistics, the National Police Air Service's helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft attended 1,650 incidents in the South West, including 139 in Wiltshire, last year.
The stats prove that the millions of pounds paid by South West police forces to NAPS can no longer be justified.
PCC Philip Wilkinson is campaigning for the five South West police forces to exit their open-ended contract with the National Police Air Service.
Author's summary: Police helicopter costs are no longer justified, says PCC.
