Libya’s Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, has ordered the detention of Ali Al-Abed, the Acting Minister of Education, pending investigation into alleged irregularities and negligence in managing contracts for printing school textbooks.
The contracting procedures for schoolbook printing uncovered violations that harmed the public interest and infringed on the right to education.
The administrative and financial mismanagement led to delays in delivering textbooks to nearly two million students, contrary to the Ministry’s approved education strategy.
