Pet dogs were blessed at a Musselburgh church on Sunday to mark the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology.
The feast day is a Christian celebration held annually to commemorate the life of St Francis, who died at Portiuncula, Italy, on October 4, 1226. Pope Gregory IX pronounced St Francis a saint in 1228.
People were invited to attend St Peter's Episcopal Church with their pets for a Blessing of the Animals. Despite stormy weather, the service was well attended, with congregation members and community members bringing their dogs to receive a special blessing.
St Francis is the patron saint of animals and ecology.
