A part-time farmer, Peter Maboa, has finally received the last of his winnings from the Carousel casino, two years after his win.
Maboa won R168,433 playing on the 10c machines and was initially paid R30,000 in cash, with the promise of the remaining amount being transferred to his account.
“When I won, the casino people said they did not have the funds to pay me the full amount. They gave me R30,000 in cash and said if I gave them my account details, they would transfer the rest,”
Maboa had to wait for the final R35,000 instalment, which was resolved after media involvement, similar to another winner, Israel Mogotsi, who faced delays with his R400,000 Bingo prize.
The last instalment of R10,000 was paid in November 2023, and the outstanding balance of R35,000 has now been paid.
One of the Carousel’s owners, George Morfou, confirmed in April that Maboa was not paid the full amount on the day of his win.
