A new documentary, Theocracy, about the life of London-Irish artist Bernard Canavan, will have its world premiere at the Cork International Film Festival this month.
Directed by Sé Merry Doyle, the documentary explores Canavan's life, including his birth and immediate separation from his biological parents.
"I am very much looking forward to it, more so than most films because it was such a long journey, so hard to make because we had no funding except for the good people of London. The emigrants paid for the film."
Canavan was born out of wedlock and taken from his parents to be raised in Saint Patrick's Guild, an orphanage in Dublin run by the Sisters of Charity, despite his parents' plans to marry.
The documentary's premiere is a culmination of a long and challenging production process, with director Sé Merry Doyle expressing his anticipation for the film's release.
