Employers and Government Partner to Build Healthier Workplaces

Over 60 major and numerous small employers are partnering with the government to address the growing number of people out of work due to ill health.

This joint effort, developed in response to

Sir Charlie Mayfield's Keep Britain Working Review
, aims to prevent ill-health, support people in staying at work, and help employers build healthier workplaces.

The Review estimates that

one in five working-age adults is out of work due to health reasons
, resulting in a £85 billion annual cost to businesses from sickness, turnover, and lost productivity.

The government will partner with employers to reshape how health issues and disabilities are managed in the workplace, with major brands like British Airways, Google, and John Lewis, as well as SMEs, adopting the proposals.

These early adopters will help refine workplace health approaches over the next three years, building an evidence base for effective strategies.

Author's summary: Employers and government unite to create healthier workplaces.
