Brantford councillors have endorsed a multi-million dollar plan to install water and wastewater pipes underneath Highway 403 near the Oak Park Road interchange.
According to Mayor Kevin Davis, this project is "critically important" to Brantford's economic future. The land in question, located immediately north of Highway 403, includes a former gravel pit and is one of only a handful in southern Ontario ready for industrial development once the pipes are in place.
"It's the kind of land that 20 years ago you would see an auto assembly plant on it,"
Davis said at a November 4 committee-of-the-whole meeting. He emphasized the significance of this land to both the future of the community and southern Ontario.
Davis also noted that there could be significant industrial development in southern Ontario once the trade situation with the United States is resolved, and Brantford would be a prime candidate for that investment.
