Antoine Fuqua’s musical drama for Lionsgate is scheduled for release on April 24, 2026. The film, titled Michael, features Jaafar Jackson—nephew of the late Michael Jackson—making his feature debut as the legendary pop star.
The first teaser, released on Thursday, highlights Jaafar performing signature dance moves inspired by Michael Jackson’s stage and music video performances. The biopic’s theatrical and IMAX premiere follows multiple delays, originally expected in fall 2025.
An official trailer is set to debut next week in theaters ahead of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t screenings.
“The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins,” the producers of Michael said in a synopsis.
The teaser includes a brief voice-over from a sound engineer stating that “the songs are ready,” referencing additional filming completed in June 2025, which spanned 22 days.
Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming film Michael stars Jaafar Jackson in a powerful portrayal of his uncle’s creative spirit and rise to global fame, premiering in April 2026.
