Shaun Wane makes two changes to England squad as Dom Young suffers serious injury – Total Rugby League

Shaun Wane Adjusts England Squad Ahead of Third Ashes Test

England head coach Shaun Wane has called up Joe Burgess and Harry Newman for the upcoming Third Ashes Test against Australia at AMT Headingley on Saturday. Both players have yet to appear for England in this series.

Injury Forces Squad Changes

Joe Burgess replaces Dom Young, who suffered a broken foot during last Saturday's defeat to the Kangaroos at Everton. This will be Burgess's first England appearance since the 2015 series win over New Zealand.

Experience and Familiar Ground

Harry Newman, a Leeds Rhinos player throughout his career, may return to international action at AMT Headingley, where he last played as England secured a 2-0 series win over Samoa in 2024. He replaces Jake Wardle, the Wigan Warriors centre.

John Bateman remains out due to an ankle injury sustained before the Second Test.

Shaun Wane’s Remarks

“Of course we are disappointed not to be going into this final game with the opportunity to win The Ashes, but the goal now is to come away from the series with a victory.

We did a lot of good things last week but ultimately, we need to be even better if we want to get a win this weekend.

It will be great to see Joe Burgess and Harry Newman in action this weekend. Joe has had a great season with Hull KR and Harry has been a consistent performer for me in an England jersey.”
