Forecasters have renewed a Winter Weather Advisory for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit Counties and Western Okanogan County. Heavy snowfall and cold air are expected to meet midweek, creating difficult travel conditions across high elevations.
Snow is forecast to begin around 4 p.m. on Wednesday along the Cascade Crest and the upper sections of Highway 20. The most hazardous travel times are from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, and again Thursday night.
Roadways may become glazed, and visibility can shift quickly. Travelers should allow extra time, maintain safe speeds, and keep essential winter gear nearby. Crews will be active along major corridors, so provide them with room and steady pacing. Residents at elevations above 4,000 feet may see the heaviest accumulation, while valleys could experience slush, black ice, and slow-moving plows during rush hours.
The advisory warns that travel could be very difficult to impossible in spots.
Officials recommend checking the latest forecasts before traveling, monitoring road cameras, and keeping others informed of your route. Power interruptions may occur, but prior preparation can reduce disruption.
Patience and preparation will make a greater difference than speed or risk during this storm.
Winter weather returns to the Cascades with heavy snow, prompting caution and careful planning as roads, visibility, and schedules face major disruption midweek.
