The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for heavy snow and strong winds impacting parts of Alaska, Wyoming, and Washington from Wednesday night through Friday morning.
The Thompson Pass area is forecasted to receive about 9 inches of snow from overnight Wednesday through Thursday evening. Peak 40 mph winds early Thursday afternoon are expected to cause blowing snow, reducing visibility to approximately half a mile or less.
“Surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury,” warned the NWS for Alaska.
The Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains should prepare for 4 to 8 inches of snowfall, with up to 12 inches possible in the highest elevations, from overnight Wednesday through Thursday afternoon.
The heavy snow and gusty winds will create hazardous driving conditions, likely disrupting travel especially along major highways and at higher elevations.
Residents in affected areas should exercise caution due to slippery surfaces and impaired visibility.
“The forecasted snow will create hazardous travel conditions with reduced visibility caused by high, gusty winds and blowing snow,” stated the NWS.
Author’s summary: Significant snowfall combined with strong winds threatens hazardous travel in parts of Alaska, Wyoming, and Washington, urging residents to stay alert and drive carefully.
