Aimee Lou Wood opened up about body dysmorphia during White Lotus filming

Aimee Lou Wood revealed that she struggled with body dysmorphia while filming bikini scenes as Chelsea in the third season of the Emmy-nominated HBO series The White Lotus. The 31-year-old actress shared her experience in an interview with Harper's Bazaar.

“I shook myself out of it by thinking, ‘It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does,’”

Wood explained that her character’s faith and optimism helped her overcome insecurities, allowing her to borrow Chelsea’s self-assurance on set. She added that at one point, the distinction between herself and the character began to fade.

“The line between me and her started to blur,”

The actress acknowledged that the show’s global popularity changed her life dramatically, bringing frequent visits to Los Angeles for press and work. Yet, she found the Hollywood scene emotionally draining despite its glamour.

“I find LA emotionally bulimic, and I say that as an ex-bulimic. It is this super-sized adventure where everyone’s talking about you all the time and you have to talk about yourself all the time.”
