Another round of strong winds is set to return tonight and continue into Thursday morning. A low-pressure system will move across northern New England and into the Gulf of Maine this evening. As it shifts towards the Canadian Maritimes, it will rapidly intensify through a process called “bombogenesis.”
Meanwhile, a high-pressure system approaching from the southwest will create tight pressure gradients, causing significant wind speeds.
The pressure difference drives air flow from high to low pressure areas. Because the region lies between these systems, air will funnel across the Northeast.
Temperatures will drop from the upper 50s under cloudy skies to the 40s overnight.
