Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are teaming up with Tony winner Cole Escola to bring a Miss Piggy movie to life. The film is in early development at Disney, which holds the rights to the Muppets. This will be the first feature film centered on the iconic diva puppet, who debuted on Jim Henson’s “The Muppet Show” in the 1970s.
“I don’t know if I can announce this but I am just going to … Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it,” Lawrence revealed on the podcast Las Culturistas.
When asked if Stone and Lawrence would co-star, Lawrence responded playfully, “I think so. We have to… It’s messed up that we haven’t done a movie together.”
Lawrence shared more about the film’s inspiration during an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The idea emerged during pandemic lockdowns amid heightened cancel culture discussions.
“She said, ‘Miss Piggy is a feminist icon. It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled,’” Lawrence recalled. “Now that is not the plot necessarily, but it got the wheels turning.”
This project marks a fresh take on a beloved character, blending humor with contemporary cultural themes.
