Universal Pictures is developing a new Mummy movie, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reportedly in discussions to reprise their iconic roles from the late '90s and early 2000s franchise. The film will be directed by Radio Silence, according to multiple sources speaking to Deadline.
Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will helm the project, working from a script by David Coggeshall, known for The Family Plan and The Deliverance. Veteran producer Sean Daniel will return alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment.
This new film marks a reunion between Radio Silence and Project X, following their collaboration on the Scream franchise reboot. Project X produced the series, while Radio Silence directed several entries up to Scream 6. Their latest joint effort includes the horror sequel Ready or Not: Here I Come for Searchlight Pictures.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz previously starred in two Mummy films: The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001). Both were directed by Stephen Sommers and earned over $400 million worldwide. These films are based on one of Universal’s classic movie monsters from the early 20th century.
Universal Pictures has declined to comment on the project, and plot details remain confidential.
