Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant has watched rookie sensation Cooper Flagg closely and confidently predicts the young Maverick is on track for greatness. Despite Dallas' rough start this season, with a 2-5 record after losing 110-102 to the Rockets, Durant remains impressed by Flagg’s potential.
“I think that he’s going to be a hell of a player,” Durant told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “I think that he’s going to be such a nightmare… that… he’ll be considered one of the best of all time.”
At 18 years old, Cooper Flagg has already displayed flashes of elite two-way ability. Standing 6’9” and taking on the point guard role under coach Jason Kidd, Flagg is averaging 13.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and three assists per game. While those stats might seem modest, Durant believes they don’t capture Flagg’s full influence.
“I think that you’re going from in college playing four and five to playing point guard, two guard. That’s going to be an adjustment period for everybody.
“I hate to inject myself into his [situation], but I came in college playing four, five. I came to the league playing a two.”
Durant highlights the challenge Flagg faces shifting positions but expresses confidence in his ability to adapt quickly and excel.
