Following a challenging 2-5 start to the 2025-26 season, the Sacramento Kings have modified their roster by signing free agent Precious Achiuwa, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
To make room for Achiuwa, the Kings waived second-year center Isaac Jones, who was on a $1.96 million club option for this season. Jones was expected to become a restricted free agent next offseason, as noted by Spotrac.
ESPN's Bobby Marks reported the team will absorb a $191,043 cap hit from waiving Jones, while $214,151 will count against the salary total, influencing the luxury tax.
Before the signing, Sacramento had $3.15 million in luxury tax room, was $7.6 million below the first apron, and $19.5 million below the second apron, Spotrac stated.
The Kings’ frontcourt depth has been tested early in the season due to the loss of Keegan Murray, who suffered a UCL tear in his left thumb and underwent surgery last month. The team announced his status would be reassessed at the earliest next Monday.
Achiuwa, aged 26, appeared in 57 games last season for the New York Knicks, averaging 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
