Cochrane Could Host 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary
Cochrane may become the new location for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary triathlon if town council approves the proposal. Platinum Racing Events, the organizers, have suggested relocating the event from Harmony Park due to construction there.
Event Details and Schedule
- The two-day triathlon is planned for July 25–26, 2026, with setup beginning July 24.
- About 1,100 athletes from up to 26 countries are expected to participate.
- More than 500 spectators and 300 volunteers are anticipated to attend.
- Approximately 40% of participants are expected to travel over 300 kilometres to compete.
- Last year’s event drew athletes from 16 countries.
Race Course Overview
If approved, the race will comprise:
- a 1.9-kilometre swim at Ghost Lake,
- a 90-kilometre bike ride along rural roads north of Cochrane,
- a 21.1-kilometre run using the town’s pathway network and river corridor.
A relay option for two or three people will also be available.
Additional Activities
- July 24–25: Kids Fun Run, vendor booths, and athlete package pickup
- July 26: Main race event
- The Historic Cochrane Ranche is proposed as the event headquarters.
