Alberta Health Services has lifted the blue-green algae advisory for Eagle Lake, located southeast of Strathmore, effective Wednesday. Cooler temperatures have lowered the lake’s water temperature, decreasing the health risk posed by cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae.
Previously, the lake in Wheatland County, about 45 minutes east of Calgary, was under an advisory warning residents to avoid contact with the algae. Officials also advised against using untreated lake water for drinking or cooking.
"Boiling does not remove the toxins," Alberta Health Services cautioned, urging people to use alternative water sources for themselves, their pets, and livestock whenever algae may be present.
