On Wednesday, October 22nd, at 7pm, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai participated in an online seminar open to Ursinus students to discuss her newest memoir, Finding My Way. The event was part of the Author’s Talk Series hosted by the Library Speakers Consortium.
Yousafzai joined host and moderator Brandon Adler for an hour-long session where she answered questions about her life and book. Adler explained, “The Library Speakers Consortium is a partnership of more than 500 library systems across the US, Canada, and New Zealand, aiming to make author talks accessible to communities of all sizes.”
Listeners engaged with a mix of pre-submitted and live questions via the seminar chat, allowing for a dynamic conversation about the bestselling author’s life and the challenges she faced, especially during college.
Finding My Way stands apart from Yousafzai’s first memoir, I Am Malala, by its deeply personal and candid tone.
“This memoir is the most personal reflection I have ever shared,” Yousafzai said. “This is me reintroducing myself for who I am and the most important thing for me in all of these years has been to be true to myself. This is not to show myself as a symbol or as a hero but to show myself for who I am. This is the most personal story, and I have been very honest and open in talking about everything just to ensure that it’s the true side that people can learn more about.”
Her new memoir offers an intimate glimpse into her personal journey beyond her public image.
Author’s summary: Malala’s latest memoir reveals her true self with honest reflections, focusing on personal growth beyond her global symbol status.
